The iconic chapel at Assumption Cemetery was taken down Nov. 7. The cemetery is located at 2401 Court St. Syracuse. Assumption Cemetery is one of the largest cemeteries in Syracuse and has been called a vast "city of the silent." As Assumption Church was one the major German Catholic church of the North Side of Syracuse in the heart of the German community, many Germans were buried here.

As Assumption Church in the North Side of Syracuse once had a major German Catholic congregation, many Germans were buried at Assumption Cemetery.

A call placed to the cemetery’s offices about why the chapel was taken down has not yet been returned.
