The Onondaga County Republican party designated its candidates for the 2023 elections Thursday night.
The party had just one contested seat: The race for the designation in the Onondaga County Legislature’s 13th District.
Ken Bush Jr., who currently represents the district, faced Wendy Vanderwater for the party’s designation.
Bush Jr. won and will seek a fourth-term on the Legislature.
Legislators John McBride, who represents the 11th District, and Jim Rowley, who represents the 2nd District, are not running for re-election this year. Rich McCarron will run for McBride’s seat and Kevin Meaker will run for Rowley’s seat.
Rowley is also currently the Legislature’s chairman.
Republicans hold three of the four countywide seats up for election this year, including county executive, district attorney and clerk. The incumbents in those seats — County Executive Ryan McMahon, District Attorney William Fitzpatrick and Clerk Lisa Dell — all are running for re-election.
The party also put forward Casey Jordan, former Onondaga County legislator and attorney for the county, to run for county comptroller. That seat is currently held by Democrat Marty Masterpole.
Republicans do not currently have any candidates slated to run for Syracuse Common Council, which has seven spots up for grabs. They also have not yet designated any candidates for four Legislature seats.
