Representative John Mannion has won re-election in New York’s 22nd Congressional District Tuesday night despite President Donald Trump endorsing his Republican opponent, according to the Associated Press.
A Democrat from Geddes, Mannion fended off a challenge from Republican Kailee Buller to earn a second term representing NY-22 voters.
The Associated Press called the race at 9:55 p.m.
Buller is an Auburn resident who previously worked in the U.S. Department of Agriculture under Trump. The president endorsed Buller and stumped for her and other Republican candidates at an October rally in Syracuse.
Mannion earned 64.6% of the vote with 33% of the vote counted, according to the New York State Board of Elections unofficial results. Buller had 35% of the vote when the Associated Press called the race for Mannion.
The district has 526,604 registered voters, according to a November tally from the New York State Board of Elections. The Democratic Party has a slight advantage with 184,978 registered voters within the district, compared to the Republican Party’s 154,374 registered voters. More than 155,000 registered voters in NY-22 are not affiliated with either party.
In the 2024 general election, Mannion defeated then-incumbent Republican Brandon Williams with 194,450 votes, or 54.5% of 356,792 total votes cast.
