Democrat Matt Jones declared victory Tuesday in the race for the Onondaga County Legislature’s 2nd District against incumbent Republican Kevin Meaker.

Jones won 59.7% of the vote with 77.2% of the vote counted, according to the Onondaga County Board of Elections unofficial results. Meaker received 40.2%.

The district includes part of the town of Clay.

Jones’ platform emphasized a “new chapter” in Onondaga County. His focus is “ensuring that families in the 2nd District have a fair shot, a stable future, and a community they can count on,” according to his campaign website.

Meaker ran on the Republican and Conservative Party lines. Jones ran on the Democratic line.
