Central Current declared Democrat Justin Neal the victor in the race for the Onondaga County Legislature’s 1st District against incumbent Republican Brian May.
Neal won 52.3% of the vote with 100% of the vote counted, according to Onondaga County Board of Elections unofficial results. May had 47.7% of the vote.
The district includes the village of Baldwinsville, the town of Lysander and part of the town of Van Buren.
The two men have run against each other twice before. May won both times. Neal did not run in 2025, when a blue wave carried Democrats to win every legislature seat they competed for.
Neal ran on a platform of “fighting to bring back affordability, accountability, and transparency to our county.”
May is the minority leader of the Republicans in the legislature.
May ran on both the Republican and Conservative Party lines. Neal ran on both the Democratic and Working Families Party lines.
