The local Vietnamese community invited neighbors in Syracuse to celebrate the Lunar New Year this past weekend.
This year’s 2023 Tết Nguyên Đán celebration in Syracuse took place on Sunday at the F Shed at the Regional Market. It included performances, food and a ceremony.
Tet, as the holiday is usually abbreviated, officially falls on Jan. 22 this year. It’s the biggest holiday of the year in Vietnam, “the feast of the first morning.”
Vietnamese celebrate Tet by going to temple, eating special foods and cakes, decorating their homes and performing other traditions, such as giving children “lucky money.”
The celebration in Syracuse is organized and hosted by the nonprofit Vietnamese Community of Syracuse.
