Steven Depew, of Syracuse, travels on South Salina Street to Green Hills Farms, 5933 S. Salina St., to recycle bottles and cans for fellow tenants in his apartment building.
He said he returns the recyclables as a favor and gives his friends the money.
“During the nicer weather, I do this more often,” he said. “Some people save the cans on their balcony all winter.”
He said he used to throw away his own cans, but not anymore. “If you get enough they can add up.”
