Our newsroom is gaining momentum, and journalism funders across the nation are starting to notice what is happening here in Syracuse. Central Current was just awarded $20,000 from LION Publishers – an organization that works to create strong and sustainable local news outlets across the US and Canada. This marks our third national award this year, totaling $90,000 in funding from outside our region to help provide accessible, fact-based, and independent journalism here in Central New York.

LION Publishers was founded in 2012 and has nearly 600 member organizations. Their investment in Central Current will help us reach more readers than ever before with non-paywalled and community-focused coverage of our region. It will also help us grow our newsroom by strengthening our fundraising capacity.

National funders are choosing to invest in CNY because they believe in the impact Central Current can have, and they are seeing the response from readers like you. Every time you click on an article, share a story, or make a donation – it serves as proof that there is a strong appetite for new and better reporting in our community. Thank you for your support.
