The race for Onondaga County Legislature’s 6th District seat was close, but Democrat Gregory Eriksen beat Republican candidate Julie Abbott by an almost 4% margin.
Eriksen flipped the seat, contributing to the Democrats flipping the Onondaga County Legislature from red to blue for the first time in decades. The 6th District covers Marcellus, Skaneateles, Spafford and parts of Camillus.
Abbott has served in the legislature since 2018, and was appointed by County Executive Ryan McMahon after he vacated the seat.
She has chaired the Environmental Protection Committee and served on the Ways & Means Committee.
Eriksen, a Democrat, is a partner at Bousquet Holstein. He ran on an affordability agenda to lower energy costs, invest in housing, and direct county funds toward essential services like infrastructure improvements.
Originally from the Hudson Valley area, Eriksen moved to Central New York in 2007. He worked as a law clerk in federal court at the Northern District of New York, and has almost two decades of legal practice as well as seven years as a village trustee on the Skaneateles Village Board.
