Democrat Chad Ryan declared victory in the race for the Onondaga County Legislature’s 8th District against Republican Brandon Camperlino.

Ryan won 77% of the votes with 96% of the votes counted, according to Onondaga County Board of Elections unofficial results. Camperlino had 22%.

The district includes parts of downtown Syracuse, Tipperary Hill and the town of Geddes.

The district has flipped several times in the last few years. Ryan’s cousin, Democrat Chris Ryan, held the seat before becoming state senator. Then County Executive Ryan McMahon appointed Republican Shawn Fiato to the seat. Chad Ryan flipped the seat back in 2025.

Ryan is the chair of the Facilities committee and a member of the Public Safety committee.

His priorities include expanding affordable and workforce housing, creating apprenticeship and workforce-training programs connected to Micron-related growth, strengthening oversight of county contracts and capital projects, and investing in services that support children, families, and residents in need, according to his biography on the legislature page.

Ryan ran on the Democratic and Working Families Party lines while Camperlino ran on the Republican and Common Ground lines.
