Central Current is teaming up with the News Revenue Hub, a national leader in digital revenue and community-funded journalism.
The Hub welcomed Central Current as a premium client earlier this summer.
News Revenue Hub is a non-profit founded in 2016 by the former publisher of Voice of San Diego, one of the trailblazers in the nonprofit, independent journalism movement. The Hub works with other nonprofit newsrooms to develop their revenue strategies, particularly around audience and membership.
News Revenue Hub Marketing & Communications Manager Stacy Fernández, a Syracuse University alumna, wrote about the work Central Current will do with the Hub on its website earlier this month:
Frustrated by the gaps in local news coverage, a group of local philanthropists came together to found Central Current — a startup newsroom that seeks to equitably serve the communities of Central New York. While the nonprofit is in the midst of hiring its inaugural team, they’ve already welcomed their founding editor-in-chief, chief of staff and began publishing earlier this year after hiring their first reporter.
“We are in the process of identifying those gaps in news and are putting feedback tools in place so that we’re responsive to the community and can use our reporting and editorial muscle to help people make decisions about their daily lives,” said Julie McMahon, Central Current’s editor-in-chief.

Central Current is now working with the Hub to gather audience feedback through a survey. All readers are invited to share input on how Central Current is doing so far.
