Central Current is pleased to announce the hiring of its founding chief of staff, Christina Whiteside.

Whiteside is a native Central New Yorker who brings to Central Current a decade of administrative, fundraising, human resources and community engagement experience.

Whiteside has worked on political campaigns, for nonprofits and in the business sector, including for the Center for Court Innovation, The Central New York Community Foundation and Unity Mutual Life Insurance Company.

She has served in a variety of positions including as a scheduler, field organizer and outreach coordinator for local Democratic political campaigns. Whiteside worked for Central Current founder and board chair Tony Malavenda during his run for county executive in 2019.

“The intensity of a political campaign reveals a lot about a person, Malavenda said. “Through that experience, I came to appreciate how intensely passionate, relentlessly dedicated and profoundly caring Christina truly is. She is one of those people that lives their work, the kind of person that makes an organization great. The addition of Christina to the Central Current staff reinforces my belief that Central Current will be great.”

Whiteside brings a diverse skillset to Central Current. She will be responsible for managing finance and administrative operations for the organization, as well as overseeing fundraising and growing our revenue streams to include a robust membership program. She will oversee business functions separate and apart from editorial operations.

Whiteside reports to Editor-in-Chief Julie McMahon. The chief of staff started her position on July 1.

“We’re so excited to have Christina on board,” McMahon said. “She has already proven to be a diligent, hardworking and driven member of our team. I’m excited to see her grow and help lead our organization.”
