Central Current has been awarded its first grant from a national foundation.
The Inasmuch Foundation, based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, awarded Central Current $50,000 for the next year. Central Current was one of just 15 online newspapers from across the country to win the award.
Their foundation’s journalism support is directed toward midsized nonprofit news outlets who are members of the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) — and feature investigative reporting.
Inasmuch awarded a total of $22 million in funding across the focus areas of community and civic engagement, education, human services, and journalism in its current grant cycle.
This award will provide general operating support for Central Current, increasing its capacity to grow its staff, reach more readers, and tackle bigger investigations.
The Inasmuch Foundation was founded in 1982 by Edith Kinney Gaylord who was a career journalist.
