Eric Fabio, of Syracuse, a Brady Farm employee, harvests green beans Tuesday morning, Aug. 8, 2023. The Brady Farm, 150 Ford Ave. in Syracuse, is an urban farm that uses organic methods and offers community-supported agriculture, farm stands and events.
Fabio said the sunflowers shown in the foreground are “volunteers,” which describes a plant that grows on its own, rather than being deliberately planted by a farmer or gardener. He said the sunflowers are kept there because they look nice and can be offered to the community.
A project of the Brady Faith Center, the farm is located on five acres of vacant land, and its mission is to provide affordable, locally grown produce throughout the community.
Brady Farm stands run Thursdays from 11 a.m.- 4p.m. on the corner of State and Burt streets; Saturdays from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Valley Plaza, South Salina Street; and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Brady Farm, Ford Avenue.
