Central Current is hosting the first of its Current Conversations series to discuss “Reimagining Public Housing” in Syracuse. Join us Monday, October 7 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Salt City Market (484 S. Salina Street, Syracuse) for an interactive Q&A about the East Adams Public Housing Redevelopment, moderated by our Managing Editor Chris Libonati, featuring several key community leaders:

- Michael Collins, Commissioner of Neighborhood and Business Development, City of Syracuse
- Lanessa Owens-Chaplin, Director of the Racial Justice Center, NYCLU
- Raquan Pride-Green, Executive Director, Blueprint 15
- Marquita Hetherington, Neighborhood Navigator, Blueprint 15
What to expect:
Syracuse is preparing for an historic redevelopment of its public housing. As the I-81 viaduct is removed and construction begins on the Community Grid, more than 1,000 public housing units will be demolished and rebuilt with an entirely new neighborhood design. This $800 million project will take years to complete and will reshape the fabric of Syracuse for generations to come.
Central Current’s journalists will moderate a panel conversation with the City of Syracuse, Syracuse Housing Authority, Blueprint15, the NYCLU, and members of the public to explore:
- The systems in place to support tenants during this transition
- A review of the projected timeline and the progress made to date
- Residents’ concerns about the project
This event is free and open to the public, though we ask that you register in advance to confirm your attendance. Coffee and refreshments will be served, and guests will be invited to submit questions ahead of time as well as during the event.
