Democrat Marty Masterpole will serve another term as the county’s comptroller.

Masterpole defeated Republican challenger Casey Jordan by about 30 percentage points (65.23%-34.61%), according to unofficial Onondaga County Board of Elections results.

In 2019, Masterpole became the first Democrat to be elected county comptroller, a race he won by just about 4 percentage points.

“To win re-election means that the voters felt you’re doing the job that they elected you to do the first time,” he said. “The first time they elect you on campaign promises. The second time they elect you on performance and I feel pretty happy where we’re at.”

Masterpole has served in various elected roles throughout the city and county, including on the Syracuse Common Council, as the city auditor and on the Onondaga County Legislature.

Jordan had also previously served on the county legislature and works in the county’s law department.

The race was a relatively calm one until about two weeks before the election, when Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard endorsed Jordan in the race. That made Masterpole the only incumbent to not receive the paper’s endorsement this year.

“Clearly, it didn’t matter at all,” Masterpole said. “I didn’t get the endorsement four years ago, I didn’t get the endorsement this year. I was victorious both times so it didn’t matter.”
